Breast health services

Regular breast cancer screenings can help find cancer early when it may be easier to treat.

NKC Health Imaging - 2790, 1st Floor West and NKC Health Imaging for Women are recognized by ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. Our radiologists, nurses and technologists provide a range of breast imaging services to help you receive the best screening options for you.

Breast screenings

We offer several options for breast cancer screening, including:

  • Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS): This second-step screening tool may be used along with a mammogram, especially for people with dense breast tissue. An ABUS is specifically designed to see through dense breast tissue and requires a doctor’s referral.
  • Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM): A CEM combines a traditional mammogram with an injection of contrast dye, similar to the type used for a CT exam. The contrast helps highlight areas with increased blood flow in the breast, which may need further evaluation. It may be recommended for patients with an elevated or high -risk of breast cancer to help determine the extent of a known cancer before treatment. In some cases, CEM may be an alternative to breast MRI.
  • Mammography (breast tomosynthesis): Mammograms use X-rays to create images of the breast. We offer 3D mammography, which allows radiologists to examine breast tissue layer by layer for a more detailed view. This technology can help detect breast cancer and may reduce false-positive results and unnecessary follow-up tests.

Other breast imaging tests

Some breast changes need additional imaging or testing. Your provider may recommend one of these services:

  • Breast MRI: This test uses magnetic fields to create detailed images. It may help radiologists evaluate an area of concern and determine if a biopsy is necessary. A doctor's referral is required.
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy: This procedure uses special mammography equipment to help radiologists locate a breast lump or abnormality so they can collect a tissue sample for closer examination. This type of biopsy is less invasive than a surgical biopsy.

Wonderful employees

"Dr. Brecheisen and two ultrasound techs did a mammatome on me. They were absolutely fantastic. They were patient, kind and caring. One of the nurses talked to me through the entire procedure because I was so scared. That, along with the narrative of the doctor explaining everything was so helpful. Afterwards the mammography tech was equally kind. The care and kindness I've been shown by the Women's Center during several visits is unlike any other place I've gone. You have some wonderful employees who go beyond just their jobs." ~ Mary Jo, WOW comment

Insurance coverage

Before your procedure, talk with both your health provider and health insurance team about any costs you may need to pay. Most insurance plans cover screening mammograms under the Affordable Care Act. For screening mammograms, NKC Health will not charge you a co-pay or deductible and will submit a claim to your insurance company for you.

Diagnostic mammograms and other services may have out-of-pocket costs. Check with your insurance company to understand what your plan covers and what you may need to pay.
