Dr Avery Abernathy and RN, Jessica Evans are absolutely phenomenal medical providers. If you are looking for a General Practitioner, I highly recommend Dr. Abernathy. Dr Abernathy has always been super friendly and caring. He takes the time to answer my questions, and is very compassionate in bedside manner. He is authentic, open minded and thinks outside the box for solutions. Unlike other doctors I have come into contact with, he engages well, making others feel heard and he really cares about his patients. I feel so blessed to have found him in 2019. Jessica is an amazing nurse. She is kind, empathetic, and is quick to respond when I have questions or concerns about my health. I could say so much more. They are a great team, and office staff are thoughtful and friendly as well.

I have been seeing Dr. Abernathy for a couple of years now and I am extremely pleased. I rarely have to wait to be seen and Dr. Abernathy is very apologetic when he is running behind. When he asks a question, he takes the time to listen to my answer. He goes over all of my medications, making adjustments when needed. It was a difficult process finding a primary card doctor, but it was worth the investment in time until I found Dr. Abernathy. I'd recommend him to anyone.
I have been seeing Dr. A for several years. His care, listening skills and patience are outstanding. He takes a 360 degree view of your situation and provides outstanding care.
Dr. Abernathy is probably a great doctor for elderly or patient's with chronic conditions. If you are in your 20s I recommend finding someone else. I went in for my appointment and he stated to me that healthy individuals in their 20s have no need for a primary care and can receive everything they need at an urgent care. He stated he would sign the paperwork I need for my benefits incentive and get me on my way. I had additional concerns of an ear infection that he wouldn't have addressed if I didn't remind him on his way out the door. Once again, I'm sure he's a great doctor for people who already have chronic conditions but if you're looking to establish care and be followed as a healthy individual, don't see this doctor. Just a reminder that seemingly young healthy individuals get diagnosed with horrible disease processes all. the. time.

Dr. A is one of the most personable doctors I have ever had. He listens, provides professional medical advice, solutions, suggestions, excellent care, and personally follows up on our health and well being. You can tell he truly cares about his patients.

I have gone to Dr Abernathy for a few years now and have referred many people to him. I love his way of explaining things and helping me understand my options. He is caring, kind, and willing to listen.
I have seen Dr. Abernathy a few times. One time was for some mental health reasons. He listened to my concerns and spent a large amount of time with me regarding my options. I would highly recommend him.
He seemed biased toward me since his assumption for my appointment was that I had STD concerns versus the real reason of just needing a preventative wellness check (annual exam). He made me feel dumb for coming in and that my own family history health concerns were irrelevant. It seemed like he had better things to do. He was not personable and did not seem interested in my personal health goals. For a provider who's bio referenced a great interest in fitness, he did not acknowledge my fitness goals and plans. He recommended that I not return until I was 35 years old (years from now). - This did not create a good report with me and I would prefer to see someone who acknowledges the importance of preventative health and who will help me reach my personal health goals.
At this moment I would NOT recommend this doctor. He isn't good at all w/ communication or follow up lately. When messages are sent via patient portal I get absolutely no response back. When tests are performed I get no follow up except the bills and I'm always have to reach out to him. I'm just not too pleased at the moment and feeling like I don't matter as a patient. It's probably time to move on to another doctor.
Dr. Abernathy listens to his patients and doesn't talk down to us. Very knowledgeable and kind.
My whole family have been patients of Dr. Abernathy for 5 years now. I have never had such an attentive and caring doctor. I never feel rushed and he really listens to what I have to say. He responds quickly to any questions I may have and actually has called me personally. Even though his practice moved to a location that is a lot farther for me and getting in to see him takes a little longer, he's totally worth the trip and wait.

I like Meritas and had good care with prior doctor there. However, for this new doctor I had a 50 minute wait to see him for 5 minutes. He checked my ears and throat, but didn't even check my breathing. He wasn't going to give me any medicine unless it was steroid prednisone (too many side effects for me). I finally suggested a specific antibiotic and talked him into giving me a prescription.
I have been seeing Dr Abernathy for over two years and find him to be a genuine caring physician. He focuses solely on you when you are in his office and respects your opinion for a treatment plan. I would recommend him highly to anyone.
Dr. Abernathy is great. He is caring & I have complete confidence in him. He has referred me to several specialists & the ones he has chosen have been spot on. He has been my primary physician for 2 years & I feel so blessed to have found him. His office is in the clinic inside St. Luke's Hospital Smithville & is a part of the St. Luke's system. Any other St. Luke's facility he sends me to can see my entire medical record instantly. I have more confidence in my medical care than I have ever had.
