Dr. Trahan is wonderful! When I first started treatment with him, he thoughtfully listened to all of my concerns, and he has provided an ongoing treatment plan that has helped my mental health tremendously. I cannot thank him and the team enough!!
Dr. Trahan is the absolute best! He listened and with his expertise, and finally, the right combo of medication, I'm 100%!!!!!!!
Dr Trahan is the most empathetic and sympathetic doctor we have been to. He listens, he offers suggestions and never ever makes us feel like we are bothering him.
Dr. Trahan was able to squeeze me in to treat my adult diagnosis of ADHD. He took his time explaining the condition, treatments, and long-term goals of treatment. He cares for his patients very deeply and truly wants what is best for them. Cannot recommend him more!
Dr. Trahan is always so kind and profession. He spends his time listening, asking questions and I never feel rushed. I truly feel like a partner in my health care needs.
Dr Trahan is a exceptional person and excellent doctor. I think if I hadn't found him, I would be in a very bad situation. My previous doctor made my life hell.
Very professional, knowledgeable. Put me at ease, great communicator. Dr. Trajan is agreat assett for Meritas.
He has saved my life! Very kind and cares deeply about his patients! He is the best! Lucky I found him. Easy to talk to as well!
Dr Trahan takes the time to listen and provides great insight. He doesn't always 'reach for the medicine cabinet'. When it makes sense, he recommends trying self-care practices first. I think that's commendable.
Great guy, not your typical pill pusher. When something is working he lets it slide instead of the usual push for expensive new meds.
I highly recommend Dr. Trahan for your treatments! He genuinely listens to you and is very caring. I trust Dr. Trahan with my treatments and wouldn’t want any other doctor to treat me.
Dr Trahan is great. He's very personable and knowledgeable. I highly recommend him. I've learned he enjoys woodworking. Good info if you are looking for a doctor that shares a common interest with you. Hopefully he doesn't mind me sharing that. :)
Dr. Trahan consulted with me in the hospital and since day one, he has been caring and concerned about my well-being. His desire to ensure that my mental health be treated in line with everything else is so appreciated. He is top notch and I would recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Trahan saved me through a very dark place in my life. I've had several issues I just couldn't cope with. What a wonderful doctor! Thank you doctor.
I wrote a review some time back but I felt the need to write another one. My name is Janice Van Horn and Dr Trahan has been my Dr for around three years. I'm 70 years young and I've been jogging on and off since I was 14 and I know how to climb mountains but I decided in February to go on a dating site after being alone for over 20 years and yes I tend to isolate because I don't fit in with my age group. I don't have any children and not much in the way of family and no I'm certainly not dumb but I met a man on this site he did not ask me for money he just watched me go straight to downhill. I have anxiety and severe insomnia and when I gave up my apartment and GAVE away everything I ever owned and he never came back to get me. Eventually I began homeless and when I went to Dr Trahan roughly in September he asked me why I wasn't gone. When I told him what happened he put his hands on my shoulders and said if this man actually cared for you he would of been there on April 30th when you gave up your home. And that's exactly what I needed to hear from another man this Dr truly knows me and he's first a Dr and he's also a very compassionate human being. It is now November and I have accomplished getting my life back in order and will be starting a new life that I never dreamed I'd have. Sometimes people need to hear about remarkable people that might go unnoticed and I'm the one to show they shine. Also the office manager was kind to me I saw him again about a month ago and asked his permission to tell this story but not what was going to say.
I like how Dr James Trahan communicates with me. He listens and talks to me, in a professional manner. He is detailed oriented and helps me, with my diagnosis.
I have been seeing Dr. Trahan for for a little over four years now. I have moved an hour away from his office, and now do virtual apts. Anytime I have to see him in person I would be more than happy to drive the hour! He is a great DR. And would highly recommend him to my best of friends.
Dr. Trahan is very caring while listening to me. He helps me understand and process things that are affecting me. Offers his expertise for coping. I have been with his office for 5 years. Definitely recommend to others trying to hold on and figure things out.
Dr Trahan is great
Is Dr Trahan has been very informative while assisting me with my standing condition. I would recommend him to friends and family!
Extremely helpful, making sure I know the medication is correct for me.
Dr. Trahan misdiagnosed me two times. Another therapist helped me where he fell short. Stay away.
Dr. Trahan has been my doctor for a couple of years now, and has seen me through the worst times. He is knowledgeable and caring. I have always felt respected and he listens to my concerns and fears, especially with medication. He is the first doctor I’ve seen that has been able to help me live a stable life.
Very kind takes time to listen and truly cares about his patients
Very good and listening to issues affect your wellbeing. He keeps up to date on medications so you don't run out.
Dr. Trahan is the best and staff very kind!
Dr. Trahan is very good at listening, and makes it easy to understand medical issues. A very soft-spoken gentleman, he offers input but won’t force you to do anything you’re not willing or ready to do. Using logic, common sense, and his training, he’s very helpful in a broad range of areas.
Just wonderful. Quite nervous to start seeing a psychiatrist but glad u did. Dr. Trahan is a great listener and is able to get at heart of issues. Very caring and calming.
Dr. Trahan is one of the most calm, measured, even people I have ever met. Kind and fair and extremely wise. I'm super glad to have found a psychiatrist such as him!
Great doctor! He did not rush through appointment at all, and he asked lots of questions to learn relevant things about me in my first appointment. I appreciate that!
Since my last provider left, I was given a new provider. I can honestly say this is one of the best practices out there in my opinion. He was just as great as my last provider, and I cannot be more pleased.
Great doctor and great service, gets me rite in.
Dr. Trahan helped me understand the nature of anxiety, ADHD, depression, and ways I can live with it and keep those conditions under control. At times he doesn't sugar-coat his advice, but honestly I find occasionally being direct and blunt is the most effective way to get my attention. He understands how I think, and he works very well for me.
This man is awesome! Highly recommend going to see him! He really listens and has been there for me when I need him! If I were you I would give him a chance to help you through any situation you might be going through! Thank you Dr. Trahan
Great help great doctor. Everything is wonderful.
I met Dr. Trahan during a recent hospital visit. He is very calming and extremely kind. He listens well and provided the feedback that I needed. I can recommend him very, very highly.
I consulted with him in the hospital. He was patient and kind. He took his time to listen and cared very much about my well-being. He was rather off-putting about my weight, especially considering I have an eating disorder. So I reduced him by one star for that ugly comment. Otherwise he was great.
I have been a patient of Dr. Trahan for a number of years. I am completely with his therapy and his assistance and choice of medicine. I came to him at a Horrible Time in my Life, and he immediately saw that, and worked , some times over Our time limit to get me to a better place! I am grateful for his help, and support. He has always been kind and understanding but has always been direct and honest when he realizes that I am starting to backtrack, or not looking at my whole situation realistically! I am very grateful for his continued help and support! Karen Gibby
I really like Dr. Trahan. I find him to be very patient and understanding. He’s also very encouraging and gives good advice. He has never made me feel bad about reaching out to him for help and is flexible when it comes to meeting in person or online which is a must for me as a parent. I do feel like he truly cares about his patients. I would recommend him to others. :)
Best Mental Health Doctor in the Northland!
Excellent
Very thorough. Didn’t make you feel rushed. Makes you feel like a person.
I visited Dr, Trahan in March 2021 when I was in a severe depressive state. I had one in-person visit and two telehealth visits, after which I was still unable to receive an appropriate diagnosis. His office confirmed the wrong apptmt time for my next in-person visit after my mom took off work and drove an hour to attend to help get the correct diagnosis. They sent us home, refusing to squeeze us in even though it was their mistake. We went home and were able to get me a same-day appointment with another psychiatrist who got me the correct diagnosis and on new meds, which completely changed my life. I called his office to cancel my next apptmt, stating that I was no longer planning to use him. Then he had the gall to send me a letter in the mail stating he will no longer care for me, alleging the reason as "failure to keep or appropriately cancel apptmts." No, it was because your level of care was sub-par, you allowed me to just talk instead of asking direct, specific questions.
I have met with Dr Trahan twice now. I am very happy with what we are looking at doing for my mental health.
He's the only Doctor that has found anything to help my anxiety/OCD. He's kind and compassionate and I am so happy to have found a Doctor that understands what my body/mind need.
Dr. Trahan appears to be the only on-call psychiatrist at NKC Hospital, and is the worst out of all the other doctors working with Meritas Health. He has poor communication skills, and is not willing to consult or take advice from other psychiatrists. He does not listen, to what the patient or family is telling him. The apathy toward his patients is unprofessional.
Dr. Trahan has been by far the best psychiatrist that I've had. He's really easy to talk to and actually listens to you and doesn't treat you like you're insane even if are.
Dr. Trahan refused to continue to prescribe a medication that had been working for me. I have tinnitus. Loud ringing in my head. When I first saw Dr. Trahan, I was on 5 medications. We both agreed to streamline my medications. After going off all of the medications, I did not do very well after being off of an antidepressant that worked for the tinnitus. I went back on the medication and felt much better. Even though I insisted that it worked for me, he refused to prescribe the medication.
Dr. Trahan made me feel very uncomfortable and he was unprofessional in his work. He was constantly putting me on new medications and was not caring about any side effects I had. At one point he told me, as someone with generalized anxiety and panic attack disorder, I was "a lost cause" because a medicine he prescribed wasn't working for me. I was also uncomfortable in our sessions, they felt creepy to say the least. I had an acquaintance who was a foreign exchange student who went to him for anxiety and he told them that they should maybe go back to their home country because maybe they were just homesick.
Dr. Trahan is very easy to talk to. I find his approach very helpful and calming.
Dr Trahan is an absolutely horrible psychiatrist. He replaced my favorite psychiatrist ever and instead of just maintaining my medications which I’m doing fine with, he wanted to put me on heavy duty antipsychotics. In the previous appointment he gave me samples to take me slowly off Latuda, because we both agreed I had been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. However, he knew I was experiencing negative mental side effects from coming off pain medication and told me to step down off Latuda also
Compassionate, judgement-free, solution oriented care.
I have severe depression and Dr. Trahan has done his best to help me. We spend our appointments talking about my recent life events and what I can do to help myself along with medication. I'm glad I'm able to see him. His staff has always been friendly to me and the most I've ever waited to see him after arriving is 10 minutes. I only wish we could chat longer during our appointments.
I feel that Dr. Trahan is too quick to push medication and dismisses any other forms of treatment. I have mild depression and have felt uncomfortable with his readiness to continually medicate me.
If I could leave zero stars, I would. Dr. Trahan was incredibly unprofessional with me, and made seriously concerning comments about my physical appearance. This was several years ago, so I was a teenager. Now, as an adult I have a better understanding of how wrong his actions were, especially since those comments were made to a young girl. With all that aside, Trahan will charge hundreds of dollars for a 15 minute session in which he will ask you minimal questions and write you off.
Doesn't care about clients, only useful if you want to spend hundreds of dollars to be shuffled through antidepressants with little say in the matter.
I saw him for 35 minutes and he told me nothing and charged me $300. He is a poor doctor and his staff is unprofessional and rude. I would not recommend him to anyone.
I previously thought Dr. Trahan was a conscientious doctor, but once I told him that I was moving out of town, his tune changed. Following our final appointment, he refused to take or return my phone calls after I had a severe reaction to one of my medications. This was only a few days after our last scheduled appointment. I guess that since he didn't expect payment for his services any longer, he had closed his door, so to speak! A complete thumbs down!!! Very unprofessional!
From the moment I met him, I felt comfortable. First, his office staff is so thorough and professional. Having a nurse do some vital signs is a plus that I've never experienced. Although, Dr. Trahan knew about meningioma brain tumors, he wasn't made aware by myself that I was a psychologically battered, DV woman and over due with medical care suffering from BRD and Complex Grief Disorder as I'm a good actress. Following the Mayo Clinic's incomplete psychiatric eval, he performed therapy.
Dr. Trahan was very professional and helped guide me to better mental wellness. I have a new fervor for life now that I'm feeling better, and it's all thanks to him!
