Love your heart
Schedule a heart scan
With a calcium score heart scan, you can find early signs of heart disease and take action. The scan lasts about 15 minutes and costs $50.
Schedule todayThe buzz on coffee
Coffee, one of the world’s most beloved beverages, has a rich history dating back centuries. Beyond its role as a morning ritual for millions, black coffee offers health benefits from boosting cognitive function to protecting against chronic diseases.
Supports heart health
Moderate coffee consumption is linked to a reduced risk of heart disease. Coffee drinkers tend to experience a lower risk of stroke, with some studies suggesting coffee’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties contribute to this protective effect. Additionally, coffee can improve blood vessel function and reduce the risk of developing heart failure.
We are showing our love for our hearts and the Northland by collaborating with four local shops to spread preventative heart care awareness. Be sure to stop by these shops this month and spread the love. Take a photo of your coffee sleeve and tag NKC Health on Facebook or Instagram.

Heart disease and stroke facts
It’s important to do what you can to manage an existing heart condition and prevent stroke and heart disease. Left untreated, a heart condition can lead to a cardiac event like a heart attack.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heart disease and stroke are among the top causes of death for both men and women. Nearly 700,000 people in the U.S. die from heart disease each year. And over 800,000 have a heart attack each year.
Heart disease screenings
To see if you’re at risk for developing heart disease or suffering a stroke, your doctor may recommend:
- Calcium heart scan ($50) — Also known as a calcium score computed tomography (CT) scan, this test takes pictures of your heart with special X-ray equipment. It helps detect early signs of heart disease and assesses your risk based on calcium deposits.
- Carotid artery screening (ultrasound) ($40) — Receive detailed pictures of your carotid arteries which show any calcium buildup that puts you at risk for a stroke or heart attack.
You can schedule your heart screenings directly because they don’t require a doctor’s approval. Make sure you have a primary care provider for any follow-up care.
