NKC Health & Blue KC Agreement

We’re pleased to share that NKC Health and Blue KC have reached an agreement that keeps NKC Health’s hospital and clinics in-network for Blue KC members, effective June 1, 2026.

NKC Health is, and will remain, in-network with Blue KC, including our emergency department. Some healthcare professionals see patients at our facility who are independent from NKC Health, such as Midwest Emergency Medicine Specialists (MEMS), the medical group who sees patients in our emergency department. You may have received a communication about MEMS’ network status with Blue KC, but that is separate from NKC Health. Patients should continue to seek emergency care at the nearest emergency department. Blue KC advised NKC Health that on and after July 14, 2026, emergency care received from physicians with MEMS will be processed at the members in-network benefit level in accordance with the applicable surprise billing protections. Emergency services are covered at the member’s in-network benefit level, and providers are not allowed to balance bill the member. You may contact Blue KC with questions about your benefits and cost sharing for emergency services.

What this means for Blue KC patients:

  • You can continue receiving care from NKC Health providers and facilities with in-network insurance benefits through your Blue KC health plan.
  • Patients with out-of-area Blue Cross Blue Shield plans that process through Blue KC can also continue receiving care from NKC Health providers and facilities in-network.
  • If you postponed or rescheduled appointments during this time, we encourage you to reconnect with your provider and resume your care as planned.

We understand that uncertainty around healthcare coverage can be stressful, and we appreciate your patience and trust while worked with Blue KC on a resolution.
